Sam Reis Q&A Spotlight

At the start of November, we had a new person join Team Solis — Sam Reis!

We could not be more thrilled that Sam has joined our organisation in the role of FileMaker UX Designer, focusing on building out our design UI/UX capabilities whilst continuing to push the boundaries of UX with FileMaker.

Sam is a very strong leader in the FileMaker UX community, including his work with FileMaker Examples and sharing his designs on Dribble. Enjoy getting to know about his role at Solis and other fun things with our Q&A spotlight:

What is your role at Solis and what drew you to Solis originally?
My role at Solis Digital is UX Designer. I’m still learning about our company and how we do things, but the goal is to build a team around UI and UX. Solis seems to be a great place for growth, the leadership share the same core-values as myself; problem-solving with a primary focus on UI and UX.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Early childhood, I wanted to be one of those people charging down mountains on a bike; wearing the red bull logo on my helmet. That soon changed when I could no longer keep up with the fitness and the tracks started looking too scary haha

Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Mornings. With 2 cups of coffee.

What is the most exciting part of your job?
Design and development come hand in hand. Both are full of constant new challenges often leading to a unique learning experience. No two weeks tend to be the same.

What’s something you’re proud of?
FileMaker Examples. When I treated FM-Examples as a primary focus of mine, I got to speak with some quite interesting people in the community. At the time, I didn't realise the influence these individuals had on the platform. I'm looking forward to producing more of this content soon.

Any favourite line from a movie?
“It comes in pints?”

What’s one of your favourite memories from the past year?
Ok not fair, it's 2020 and COVID is about! But I guess with that in mind, it was when the first lockdown lifted, and I could see friends for a beer for the first time in months (adhering to the rule of 6, of-course).

What’s your most-used productivity hack?
URL-Schemes + FileMaker. That'll save you some time.

What’s your go-to karaoke song?
Scar Tissue - Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Although I can't sing, at all.
